Pioneer Day Free Activities

The great thing about Pioneer Days is that it lasts for days and days!  No matter where you live there is something going on this weekend and on Pioneer Day.  So, no excuses!  Get out there and have a blast!

American Fork Steel Days: July 18 to 21.  Celebrate the pioneers with a free swim day at the American Fork Fitness Center, July 18; a Children's Parade, July 20; a movie at the park, July 20; and some serious fireworks!

Bountiful Handcart Days:  July 20 to 21. Beginning with the Grand Parade on Friday night, celebrate the handcart pioneers with activities at the park, tours of historical sites around town, and a great fireworks display Friday night.

Spanish Fork Fiesta Days: July 19 to 24. If you're in Utah County, be sure to stop by the Spanish Fork celebration at City Park. Everything from a duck race, to a street dance, to the children's parade, there is definitely something for everyone.  Don't miss the Grand Parade or the fireworks display, both on the 24th.

American West Heritage Pioneer Festival: July 21.  If there is anything you have ever wanted to know about life as a pioneer, this is a great opportunity to experience it first hand.  Learn how to milk a cow, build a fire with flint and steel and even hypnotize a chicken. Seriously.  Events begin at 10:00 and go all day until 4:00.

Western Day at Utah Olympic Park: July 21, 2:00 to 5:00.  Grab you western garb and head up to Utah Olympic Park for a fun filled Saturday! BBQ, Live Music, Kids Activities, in addition to our rides and activities

First Encampment Hike: July 24, 7:00 am. During this family-oriented event, you can walk in the footsteps of the 1847 pioneers following Emigration Creek through Salt Lake City neighborhoods. Protective weaponry used and foods prepared during the era will be demonstrated.
The hike begins at Donner Park (2770 East and 990 South, east of Hogle Zoo) and ends at First Encampment Park (1700 South and 500 East). The hike is five miles long. Families are encouraged to participate and wagons and strollers for children are welcome. Bring your own water.

Mapleton Pioneer Day Celebration: July 24.  If you're near Mapleton on the 24th, you can find something to do all day long. You can start with a Patriotic Ceremony at 6:30, followed by the parade at 9:00 and a day full of activities at the park. In the evening don't miss the live entertainment or the fireworks show.  

Provo Pioneer Day Extravaganza: July 24. Held at the North Park (500 W. 500 N.).  Come learn all about the pioneers.  There will be a pioneer village, and Indian village and a Mountain Man encampment to tour, in addition to games and crafts. And if you have the best pioneer costume, you might just win a prize!

Sunrise Service: July 24, 7:00 am. The Pioneer Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers will present a Sunrise Service honoring Utah’s pioneers. The program features the Tabernacle organist and several hundred voices in choirs from around the valley.  A keynote speaker will deliver an inspirational message.  The Service will be held in the Tabernacle on Temple Square. 

Days of '47 Parade:  July 24, 9:00.  Pioneer Day just wouldn't be complete without the parade.  The parade route starts at South Temple and State Street running east to 200 East, turns south to 900 South, then turns east to Liberty Park at 600 East.  Colorful floats, bands, horses, clowns and other entries thrill thousands of spectators each year. Many families camp out on the streets the night before to ensure a great seat to catch it all the following morning. We encourage you to join us for a wonderful morning of excitement and colorful entries in our much-loved Parade.

Native American Celebration: July 24, Liberty Park. Bring your family and friends and celebrate with us. Participate in the  Arts & Crafts displays and other activities throughout the day. When you're hungry, delicious cultural food will be available at the Food Court from 7:00 AM until 10:00 PM.

Red Butte Garden: July 24. In honor of Pioneer Day, Red Butte Garden will open it's doors for free from 9:00 to 5:00 on July 24.  Take advantage of this one: Red Butte is incredible!  And don't forget to bring a few towels.  The children's garden  has a splash pad and you know they won't be able to resist!  

Liberty Park Fireworks:  July 24, 10:00pm.  End the fantastic day on a high note and watch the gorgeous fireworks at Liberty Park.
